The Motorcycle Files kicks off with a DVD programme on what many people still consider to be the ultimate racing motorcycles - the mighty 990cc machines that contested the initial seasons of the MotoGP series before the maximum capacity for the class was reduced to 800cc in 2007. Spectators, journalists, TV viewers and even multiple World Champion, Valentino Rossi, complained that the capacity reduction was a big mistake.

Check out the original big bikes that had so strong an appeal that it led to a U-turn by the series organisers and a return to the 1000cc capacity limit.

ULTIMATE RACERS – MOTOGP990 CHAMPIONS AND CHALLENGERS includes test action from three years of track sessions with all major manufacturer teams involved in the premier class of World Championship competition.

From those test sessions there also comes an up-close and informed analysis of the championship-winning bikes and all of their serious challengers by world-famous and award-winning motorcycle journalist, Alan Cathcart.

Alan Cathcart began track testing factory team MotoGP machines from the very first season that the class began and recalls how the 990cc bikes developed over a five-year period. Spend test days with him at Sepang and Valencia as he rides and evaluates the team bikes from Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha.

Hear from team managers and star riders like World Champions Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden of the Ducati squad and Suzuki team riders Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen as they discuss the challenges of MotoGP racing.

And finally, view footage provided for The Motorcycle Files by Aprilia, Ducati, Suzuki, Yamaha and Shell Oils to gain an insight into MotoGP from the manufacturer viewpoint.
